Striped Skunks
There will be no more skunk babies until next Summer 2023. We are completely out of kits. Skunks only breed once a year so please reach out to us come next Spring if you would like a chance at purchasing a baby skunk!
Skunks tend to be very sweet, playful, and loving creatures. They generally get a bad rap from the public, but only because they associate them with their distinctive odor. Our skunks are all descented before we place them in their new homes. They are definitely their own creatures and hard to compare, but I like to say they are playful like a ferret, and lazy like a cat. They love being outside, going for walks, and digging in the dirt as well!
****Although most become playful, loving creatures, that does not mean they all do!!! Just like people, each are different and have a unique personality. Some are more independent, even if constantly socialized. It is important to understand that each skunk is an individual and in turn, has its own individual personality. With that being said, socializing and desensitizing is very important and absolutely does help increase the chances of your baby becoming more personable.
If you're looking for an indoor pet, I would say skunks make the best ones in comparison to fox, groundhogs, or raccoons. They are generally low maintenance, social, and considerably less destructive.
Skunks generally weigh anywhere from 5-16 pounds when fully grown (20 lbs. is an obese skunk generally). With that being said, skunks carry their weight differently just like humans do, so one skunk that is naturally larger may weigh more, but look healthier than a smaller build skunk who weights the same amount. Most important part is how healthy your skunk looks and how he/she carries themselves. If they have a hard time getting around and are jiggly all over, probably a tad overweight and need more exercise/less food intake. The hardest part about owning a skunk, is the diet! Because when you love your babies, you tend to over feed, and trust me when I say, it is very easy to get an obese skunk. This is very unhealthy and can be a constant struggle, so sticking with a balanced diet is very important to their health. Since skunks are omnivores, they have a large array of foods they enjoy! fresh/unthawed veggies, cooked turkey, fish, eggs, bugs, meal worms, pinkies, and apples just to name a few. Along with these foods, a kibble needs to be fed and any all natural no grain dog food would suffice. Taurine is also essential to their diet!
**IF you buy a skunk and it smells "skunky" after being de-scented, it's completely normal. The skunk odor can remain for up to 3 weeks after the initial removal of the scent glands (sometimes even longer is some cases).
